Correspondence

A movement piece revealing the intimacy, love, grief and devastation experienced in the relationship between the Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann and the Romanian-Jewish Poet Paul Celan, as expressed through their poetry and letters.

Ingeborg Bachmann’ s voice speaks to the urgency of the human heart in fear of losing itself and to the self that knows the way: "In the hollow of my muteness lay a word”. In a new art form of dynamic spatial movement, visible and sculpted sound, the music of Hans Werner - Henze and the poetry of Ingeborg Bachmann will be brought to life by eurythmy in a rare performance of the Austrian poet, feminist icon and literary pop star.  Bachmann’s romantic life was as turbulent and intense as her passion for experiencing life to its fullest revelation. She was intimately befriended with the German composer Hans Werner - Henze who moved to Italy as a cultural refugee where he carried out a vast body of compositions and operas to which Bachmann wrote the libretti. His music is both challenging and inviting and is lifted up in eurythmy in a visceral and intriguing new way.
